Mercury Rising

I have always been a backyard astronomer. Living in VT there isn’t a lot of light pollution and we have some great views – when it isn’t cloudy.

This past weekend I had several opportunities to see the planet Mercury. Look to the West after sunset and you will see a very bright “star” which is the planet Venus. Look to the right of Venus – if you hold you arm out straight and hold up two fingers next to Venus, that is about the distance to Mercury. It isn’t as bright as Venus, but it is very visible.

Here is a link to a page at Sky & Telescope with this week’s sky at a glance.

I write about nutrition, health, food-related issues and spirituality at Whole Food-Whole Life.
